MEADJUSTEDME
Meadjustedme; offers a semiotic reading by pointing directly to clothing, using its visual power to reflect the psychology of society and social norms.

My project began with two questions directed at young people living in Turkey: what do they wear when going outside, and what would they wear if there were no limitations in their minds? The contrast between these two appearances visualizes the invisible rules of society. For example, both the desire of one woman to appear masculine and another to appear feminine were “adjusted” by society. In their negotiation with society, individuals are criticized for various reasons and ultimately pushed, as much as possible, toward a social average.

The work first detaches participants from their environments to focus solely on the transformation in their clothing; it then moves into their personal spaces, creating a space for the viewer to question the assumptions formed between external appearances and inner identities.
